Ok, this one made me come to a total and complete stop with this realization: I don’t have a best friend.

I have lots of friends, of varying degrees of friendship/intimacy but not a best friend.

Wonder what that says about me?

    Have to go think now.

  2. That’s funny, I have lots of ‘best friends’ (including my 5 year old corgi) too. And with this question from Grace, I am thinking that it might be good to use all of the best friends as a committee, or ask it of the ‘best friend’ that excels in whatever area the question is in.
    thanks –

  3. Hmmm. Maybe the “best friend” concept is putty in our hands.

I like your idea about asking the appropriate best friend, Denise – although you could also get some interesting feedback by asking the most INappropriate best friend, too.

Perhaps not everyone is “into” the best friend concept. For me, there’s a deep sense of peace that comes from being connected with SOMEONE who knows me better than anyone else – to whatever degree. “Best” doesn’t mean “someone who knows absolutely all about me, etc.” – it just means “someone who knows me better than anyone else does.”

Well, definitions make a difference — I was thinking Best Friend in too shallow a sense — more along the Best Friends 4Ever/High School kinda of best friends.

Defined as people who know me, the real me, on a deep level, then one stands head and shoulders above the rest, while there are a couple who are very very close to that level of understanding. And I would be willing to do whatever they said I should/could or would — or what they would do in similar circumstances.

    I feel soooo much better!

  5. Ha! Even words like “best” can contain multitudes.
